Utomo did a bachelor's degree in Physics at Gadjah Mada University, Indonesia. Then, he got his master's in Engineering at Pukyong National University, South Korea. Also, he was affiliated as a Junior Researcher in Korea Institute of Materials Science (KIMS), South Korea.
During the master’s studies, Utomo researched fiber-shaped solar cells both in perovskite and dye-sensitized solar cells.
